Would You?

So, would you, have you, do you let someone else clean for you? I sure do! I have my mum here for a week and as her house is meticulously cleaned to within an inch of its life, I thought I'd leave the kitchen floor, just in case she fancied something to do while she's here.

Result.

I now have a spotlessly clean kitchen floor!

How about you... Would you let someone else do your cleaning?

  1. Sadly Mrs.Stewpot isn't your average woman so when she does eventually start dusting it's top soil being removed from shelves and not dust!

  2. Depends who it was - some I wouldn't like to like my mother in law

  3. Only hubby because I taught him how to do it to my exacting standards. ;)

  4. I used to when I was on mat leave. It was heaven. I would go out for two hours and come back to a clean house with mopped floors.

  5. I have never dared to get someone in, even when I worked full-time, as I would never trust anyone snooping around my things. A family member is different though! I quite enjoy cleaning, although not too often! As I get older,it seems to be more of a chore, though.

  6. No, probably because I would end up cleaning before the cleaner came. I'm also a bit particular about what products to use as I have to be careful with my children's asthma. So I much prefer to do it myself or to delegate to husband who looks a fine specimen in a pinny, LOL. Deb xx

  7. Absolutely I would. Although I do enjoy the feeling of accomplishment after working on my home until it's gleaming, I would definitely have a cleaning person if I could afford it!

  8. Definitely! Can't afford a cleaner at the moment but (confession time) my mum does ALL my ironing - for FREE!!

  9. Absolutely! If I could afford it then I most certainly would employ a cleaner. My house is a tip!

  10. You better believe it! I have a cleaner once a week and it's the best £20 I've ever spent! I just love walking into a clean smelling, tidy home, even if it does only stay that way for a couple of hours...well worth it! Enjoy having your mum clean x

  11. I use to have a lady come in to clean every two weeks but the things she broke made it impossible to keep her...
Then I had a friends daughter come in...She's in her late 30's...When I got home on the day she was to have cleaned, the back door was standing open, windows were up and the air conditioner was running (HOT day), linens taken off beds but no clean ones put back on beds...rugs outside, just sitting there...Can you say nightmare?
It's just not worth the hassle...and NEVER hire a family member OR a friend!

  12. I have let my friend do it when I was too ill to cope with bathroom and kitchen last year.
You get to the stage where you really don't care!

  13. In a heart beat... when are you coming round lovely ?

  14. My sister came to stay for a week when DD was three weeks old and she basically cleaned the whole place including doing my windows. Almost worth having another baby for.

  15. You know, I was coming to the stage of considering having a weekly cleaner, but then 5th July I was made redundant, so now I have spent the last 2 days cleaning when I should be job hunting.
The hubby aint a born domestic.

  16. Like Sheila I wouldn't want my MIL to do it (the times she did she moved our furnirure around!) but I really wouldn't mind a peofessional cleaner!

  17. Do you hire your mum out?? LOL I would love a cleaner but cannot afford, it would be my necessary luxury if I came into money. Trying to keep a clan house with M.E and Fibro is impossible when I cannot physically lift the hoover!!!

  18. In a heartbeat! I love a very clean house, and I don't get to it often enough for my own standards. So help is welcome!

  19. Your post made me smile - I have ocd so cleaning is my hobby and no, I don't think I could be sure someone would do my housework as thoroughly as me! that's the truth - I would find it really hard, would inspect their work - it would worry me a lot! Growing up at home my mother did NOT do housework or ironing at all - no kidding - everything was thick with dust - I know from personal experience that after a few years dust doesn't actually get any worse! I found it very stressing as a teenager. I would like to try a cleaner though to clean my oven and to wash my wheelie bins (trash). I think I could let go on those two!

  20. I'm currently considering taking on a 4 days a week job which would be high pressure but also potentially higher pay. I'm certainly considering a cleaner now even though I vowed not to. I don't want to be spending my remaining 3 days a week cleaning rather than with my son.

  21. Nothing makes me happy like a sparkling clean house :) I cannot afford to pay someone to clean for me, so I do the best I can. Our house is not small by normal standards. We have 7 bathrooms. I lament frequently about wanting a clean house and now my wish will come true at a large price. I work full time and was informed that our facility is closing. This has been my other home for 13+ years and affects 60 employees. My desire for a clean house will come true after our business closes but I would rather stay employed. The moral of the story is to be careful what you wish for.

  22. Yup I have a cteaner, I'd give up all my 'luxeries' to keep paying her too. But I bought a steam floor cleaner from Lakeland recently. I love it.

  23. I think I would have to clean up before the cleaner got there, would'nt feel right otherwise.

  24. I let my husband clean for me, but it's no where close to spotless, haha.

  25. Think most people who need a cleaner would probably stress and end up cleaning for hours before the cleaner arrived.
Good for you on letting your Mum help.
My mum apparently hated my housework standards but never thought to push the hoover around or anything when I was struggling with 2 under 2.
Quite fancy those cultures where fellas have more than one wife so that the load could be shared every day of the week

  26. Yep. Best £25 I spend every week I work from home & do vol work. We'd live in a hovel if it wasn't 4 the cleaner. She does a much better job than I would do & it gets done more often lol

  27. Absolutely YES, especially now when Olivia is so tiny, every little help is highly appreciated by me. @Kahanka

  28. I'm funny about my private space. On the one hand, it's wonderful to have a clean house (and given time issues my whole house never seems to be clean at once-as I type I'm noticing the glazing of dust over my desk). On the other hand, I really dislike anyone rifling about my things and cleaning involves doing this at least a little bit. The last time my hub had someone clean our house it took me two weeks to find things and put them back where they belonged. If it was my Mum helping I wouldn't mind at all, though!

  29. Sounds a great idea - she might like to do your floor as a regular chore - she obviously enjoys it LOL.

Trust you are well, Crystal, and I have just returned after a 5 month blogging break!! My first in 3 years.

  30. i would love a cleaner as mine seldom gets done although I do blitz a bit in the school hols once I am recovered. I go clean bits of my daughters, often the dishes and do her bed changing for her. too busy to claen much tho

  31. I've had a cleaner for the past 4 years, but am thinking of letting her go, she's currently on a summer break. She just will not do the cleaning the way I ask her to, e.g. when she does one of the kid's rooms, she folds all the clothes from the floor, no matter how many times I ask her to just throw them on the bed and hoover.
Now they're bigger, I'm going to have a family meeting and see if we can get agreement on everyone doing their own room.
Would be a nice saving at a time when we need it too!
